My Experience with Newark Airport Terminal & United Polaris
I’m not sure why New Yorker’s (including myself) have a stigma with flying out of Newark Airport. Let me start by debunking this myth: Newark is not farther than JFK or LGA. Seriously, take your phone out right now and search the driving time. Now that that’s out of the way, the United Terminal at Newark is, simply put, an outstanding experience. It’s more reminiscent of a world class food hall with top quality restaurants than a dismal terminal where you eat a sad tuna sandwich before getting on a plane.
I could not get over the countless dining options, many of which are created by some great NYC chefs including a beer hall and dumpling concept by Dale Talde a burger spot by Josh Capon and vegetarian inspired concept by Amanda Cohen. In addition to these chef-driven concepts I also loved Daily, a farm-to-table restaurant with a menu that changes every day along with Saison, a French bistro that’ll truly make you feel like you’re in Paris.
The terminal is also home to the newly opening Mélange Bakery by Jacques Torres – the world’s first 24/7/365 airport bakery where everything is made in house – chocolate chip cookies, rainbow bagels and macaroons included.
The only bad news about all of this is that you must get through security to experience all the food. I would consider flying out from this terminal for your next trip and leaving a few extra hours for an epic meal (or three).
I also want to mention my incredible experience with Polaris, United’s international premium travel experience. As soon as I got on the plane, I loved finding that both my duvet and light throw blanket (having two blankets are a great touch) were form Saks Fifth Avenue – so chic! My amenities kit also included toiletries from SoHo House’s Cowshed which I’m excited to use for future travels. United Polaris prides themselves on comfort and a good night sleep and they certainly accomplished just that; I’ve never had such a great night sleep while flying!
I truly had such a wonderful flight experience and it made my travels to Barcelona that much better. Stay tuned for a guide to Barcelona including my favorite restaurants!
