Club Crush: The Week’s Best Electronic Lineups
Happy New Year, my little rave cats! I’m sure you assumed as much, but I took a blog break over the holidays to rack up on rest and quality time with the fam. Then, like a fucking warrior princess, I dragged my ass out in arctic temperatures for three days straight over NYE weekend in pursuit of adventure. Get Real tore up the Brooklyn Hangar on Friday. We finally got a taste of deadmau5‘s new alter-alias TESTPILOT, and BangOn!NYC’s Time + Space party sent us to infinity, and beyond. No regrets, but my actions necessitated more recovery time. You know how it goes . . .
Anyway, I’m all good now! One week into my annual January cleanse and I’m ready to show the dancefloor that even while sober, I can keep the party LIT. Now that I have a few smoothies in my gullet and yoga sessions under my belt, I am 100 percent ready to go out. One resolution I’ve set is to take better advantage of the city in which I live. New York City is fucking amazing – why did I watch the entire first season of Marvelous Ms. Maisel in 2 days when there’s five whole boroughs to explore? Well, I did it because it was punishingly cold outside. But this week, no excuses, and frankly I don’t need one.A few of my favorite house and disco acts are coming through the hood, and I’m not missing that! I’m feeling real good about 2018 thus far. How about you? Add a little zest to your New Year with this week’s Club Crush picks!
Good Looks Collective Presents: Oliver & Jenaux @ Output (Friday, January 12th) – I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a show at Output since Mat Zo played his house set back in September. Good Looks Collective and Dancing Pineapple have teamed up to bring a dually stacked lineup to both dancefloors this Friday. In the main room, we finally get a chance to see glitch-hop up and comer Jenaux, but we’re especially thrilled to catch LA-Based house duo, Oliver, in the headlining slot. Their deliciously funky 2017 LP Full Circle has served as the soundtrack to my life since last fall, so I can’t wait to see how they spin it for the fans in-person. FDVM and The Golden Pony, two acts we caught at BangOn!NYC’s NYE bash, will be keeping the Panther Room groovy with French house, disco-jams and much more. I’ll be running frantically between both rooms because I WANT IT ALL. Get tickets HERE.
Jubilee Presents Magic City @ Elsewhere (Friday, January 12th) – Originally emerging from the Miami rave scene, Jubilee is known for her hard-hitting bass sets that incorporate two-step, dubstep, house and grime. This badass chica is bringing more than a decades worth of bangers to one of Brooklyn’s hottest new clubs, Elsewhere. Also shout out to Elsewhere for having a sober January-friendly option for those of us who are embracing the potential for new beginnings. Grab yourself a White Label Yerba Mate and prepare to kick it all night long because Detroit’s jack of all trades (seriously this guy does it all – producer, graphic designer, photographer, fashion design, Jimmy Edgar is also on the bill, along with Volvox, Star Eyes, Dr. Jeep and Katie Rex. Get tickets HERE.
EGG LDN 15 Years World Tour Feat. Matador @ Analog BK (Saturday, January 13th) – From cooking in a Michelin Star kitchen to headlining Ibiza’s hottest clubs, Irish-born producer Matador never fails to amaze us with his many talents. We had the pleasure of catching the proud fighter at BPM a few years ago and can attest that it’s one of the most fun and energetic techno sets you’re likely to find these days. He’s headlining in celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the UK’s iconic alternative nightclub EGG London. DESNA and Espinal & Nova provide support. Get tickets HERE.
Horse Meat Disco @ Output (Sunday, January 14th) – Add a little fab to 2018 when the infamous disco daddies of Horse Meat Disco make rounds for their Output residency. This queer Sunday night-shindig has become the stuff of legends, so if you’ve missed it thus far, then it’s time to add another resolution to your list. Get tickets HERE.
Medium Rare Presents Viva Las Vegas feat. Juan MacLean and Midnight Magic (DJ Sets) @ Baby’s All Right (Sunday, January 14th) – It’s a long weekend, so get adventurous and place your bets on this party! Everyone’s a winner at this fundraiser featuring DJ sets from Juan MacLean and Midnight Magic plus live performances from David Marston and Brigette Zozula, The Landing and many others. Snuggle up in Baby’s All Right’s cozy backroom and prepare to dance the night away as MacLean lays down tracks from his groovy end of 2017 release, The Brighter The Light. You’ll realize pretty quickly that you should have brought sunglasses. Proceeds go to support The Compassion Fund, so party for a good cause! Make donations and get tickets HERE.
