Greenpoint institution Enid’s is closing
This is sad, but unsurprising news. We remember a time in the early aughts when Enid’s was the most popular bar in North Brooklyn. The trendsetting bar and cafe set the pace for countless establishments that have sprung up since, outliving many of them as the neighborhood underwent dramatic change. It’s still a damn fine place to have a drink.
Thankfully, they’re not getting pushed out by greedy landlords:
“We’ve been here 20 years, a lot of us who work here have been here over a decade, and we’ve done our thing—it’s time to make some room for new pioneers,” manager Andy Siebert, who has worked at Enid’s for 11 years, told Gothamist. He added that he was told by the owners that the closure has nothing to do with rent increases or any outside forces: “I know the neighborhood with be devastated, but we’re all ready for it too. I feel like we’ve served our purpose in the neighborhood. It’s time to do something else.”
Their last day is March 31 — an end of an era.
