Make Your Voice Heard! Help Choose a New Public Advocate Today
It’s Election Day in New York City! New Yorkers will be choosing a new public advocate today in a special election to replace Letitia James, who’s now state attorney general. Polls are open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
It’s a huge field — 17 candidates are competing for the job with little actual power. The office, however, has historically been a launching pad for the city’s mayoral campaigns (case in point: Bill de Blasio). Perceived frontrunners include: Jumaane Williams, Michael Blake, Daniel O’Donnell, Melissa Mark-Viverito, Nomiki Konst, Eric Ulrich, Ron Kim and Rafael Espinal. Downtown, Benjamin Yee has been getting a lot of traction with political insiders.
